Support available for victims following changes to prison release arrangements |
||
The Government has introduced changes to prison release arrangements through the Sentencing Act 2026. The changes, which include a new "Progression Model" for some standard determinate sentences, are intended to help ensure there is sufficient prison capacity while maintaining robust supervision and licence conditions for offenders released into the community. Protecting victims remains a priority, with those released subject to strict conditions and intensive supervision. We understand that news of these changes may cause concern for some victims and survivors of crime. If you are worried about the release of an offender or would like support and advice, help is available.
Dedicated Offender Release Helpline Victim Support operates a dedicated Offender Release Helpline, offering emotional and practical support, information about the changes, and help accessing other specialist services where needed. The helpline cannot provide information about individual offenders or release dates but can help people understand what the changes may mean for them. 📞 0808 168 9280
